Low Cholesterol Groceries You Can Afford

Low Cholesterol Groceries You Can Afford

Tracy Morrow

Buying low cholesterol groceries you can afford is always a challenge. Two of the most important things you can do are stock up on items when they are on sale if you know that they are items your family will eat. The second thing is to plan your menu and only add items to your shopping list that you will need. This will help you avoid buying items that are not on your list. Base your menu around items that are on sale for that week.

When planning your menu, remember that you don't have to eat meat for every meal. This is good news because meat is one of the most expensive food items to buy. Replace it with more budget friendly items. Legumes such as navy beans, black beans or chick peas are great choices.

Stock up on whole grain pasta and brown rice. Adding pasta or rice to vegetables or meat dishes will increase the amount of servings. You can freeze the extra servings to use for another meal. This practice alone will help support a heart healthy diet and cut your grocery bill down a significant amount.

Did you know you can also use rice with fruits for delicious, low cholesterol desserts? Make about four servings of brown rice. Core, slice and bake apples until tender. Place the apples over the rice and drizzle with honey. You will have a delicious dessert which is perfect for a healthy diet while still saving money from buying unhealthy sweets for snacks and desserts.

By taking a minimum amount of time to review what grocery items are on sale, planning a weekly menu and using lower cost items for cooking, you will be able to stock your pantry with low cholesterol groceries that you can afford. Your wallet and your heart will thank you.
